Siemens has won its largest ever UK grid accesszazfyewfqesrxxvfadybrx contract with a deal to connect a 950 MW offshore windfarm.
The Moray East windfarm in Scotland is being developed by a joint venture between EDP Renewables, a subsidiary of the Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal, French global energy group ENGIE, and Diamond Generation Europe, part of Mitsubishi Corporation.
Siemens will provide all components including offshore transformer modules and the onshore station.
This project is 22 km off the coast of Aberdeen and will be the 11th offshore wind farm to be connected to the mainland by Siemens in the UK. It is scheduled to be operational in 2021.
Siemens said Moray East represents “a step-change in the delivery of renewable power in terms of cost and scale”. It will generate power at £57.50/MWh – less than half the price of power generated by offshore windfarms under construction today, and Siemens added that the grid connection “is one lever to drive down costs”.
