Yes, that’s right… lawn care and winter in the
same headline. Think that’s not a thing?
Well, then you likely don’t live in the
southern part of America. That or you just have a yellow lawn when spring comes
around. While those in more northern areas of the country can generally let the
seasons run their course and do some of the work from them, those of you living
in the south with mild winters will have to do a bit more work to ensure you have
a lush, green lawn come spring.
However, those who live in the north aren’t
out of the woods, so to speak. There are still some things you can do to help
your lawn during the colder months.
Protect Your Lawn From Harm
Do you take great care of your lawn during
spring and summer? Winter should really be no different, even if it is often
under a coat of snow. Remove all items from your yard that may cause damage,
such as lawn furniture, branches, and toys, otherwise, you’ll have dead spots
under them that you’ll need to address in the spring.
You can protect your lawn further by clearing
your walking paths so people stay off of it. Also be sure not to let anyone
park on your lawn in the colder months.
Use Eco-friendly Ice Treatments
Any icy driveway or walkway can be a real
pain, but many treatments such as salt can kill your lawn and contaminate your
groundwater. Sand is okay in small amounts but too much can clog up your storm
drains. Try to find products that use biodegradable, non-corrosive ingredients
like potassium acetate or calcium magnesium acetate to treat the ice. Organic
non-clumping kitty litter can also help with traction without harming your
lawn.
These are two easy eco-friendly steps you can
take to salvage your healthy lawn and have it looking great come spring. Check
