Gravity Renewables has acquired the 10.5-MW Dahowa Hydroelectric Project, located on the Batten Kill River in Greenwich, Washington County, N.Y.

The project traces its roots back to a concrete dam located 3.5 miles from the confluence of the Batten Kill and Hudson Rivers and originally built in 1925. An earlier hydropower project was replaced with the current powerhouse and a 10.5 -single turbine-generator unit in 1991.

An event in early 2014 rendered the plant inoperable until early 2016, when repairs and upgrades were completed and the project returned to safe operations.

The press release from Gravity Renewables did not indicate what company previously owned the facility, not disclose the purchase price.

“Every hydropower project tells its own story,” said Ted Rose, Gravity Renewables’ chief executive officer. “The Dahowa Project has been part of the region’s history and growth, and we look forward to ensuring that it will continue to be an important part of its future as well.”

Gravity Renewables is an owner, operator and developer of small hydroelectric power plants in the U.S., with more than 60 MW of hydroelectric projects operating and under development.

Earlier this year, the company released its first ever River Watcher Reportvatyavyrtvydzycedbdrburxsqxu, designed to be a nontraditional annual report that measures Gravity’s commitment to the riverine environments where it works, which includes a drainage basin of nearly 10,000 square miles.
