The slow fashion movement is picking up steam as shoppers become more eco-conscious. (Image from https://www.trustedclothes.com/blog/2016/06/20/how-to-shop-ethically-in-perth-australia/)

Wearing the most fashion-forward styles has a way of
boosting your mood and making you feel in tune with the world around you. But
it can also be very exhausting. And to be honest, in all of your striving to be
in vogue, you may be hurting Mother Earth in the process. If you’re ready to
try something new on the fashion front — something that both you and Mother
Earth would like — it’s time to join the slow fashion movement.

So, what exactly is slow fashion? This concept is constantly
evolving, but overall, it refers to donning a sustainable, ethical, and
eco-friendly style. For instance, you’re a slow fashion supporter if you
purchase well-fabricated garments that will last longer, or if you buy vintage
clothes. After all, slow fashion items are usually made with top-quality
materials, like organic cotton, so they are more likely to outlast the trendy
garments that big-box brands mass produce.

Slow fashion also may mean shopping from local manufacturers
or repurposing your old clothing. In addition, it is all about wearing clothes
that artisans created for fair wages.

There’s been a lot of talk in past years about the slow food
movement, which promotes cuisines that are regionally sourced and healthy.
Likewise, the slow fashion movement is all about knowing how your clothes are
made so that you can become a more ethical fashionista. Being more conscious
about where you do your shopping and the types of garments you buy can go a
long way in adding value to both the earth and your wardrobe long term.
