Here are our top five easy ways to make your home more environmentally friendly

We’re all aware of how serious climate change is, so if you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint and help do your bit for the environment, your first port of call should be to get your home in order. While you may not think that making small changes to your property will make much of a difference, making your home greener can help save you money on your energy bills at the end of each month. To help get you started, here are five tips on how to make your home more environmentally friendly.

Get Serious About Water

The amount of water you use in your home could be having a huge effect on how much cash you pay out each month. There are lots of things that you can do to conserve water and help slash your bills, such as spending less time in the shower or bath, fixing any leaks in your home, as well as installing a low-flow showerhead. Also, purchasing whole house water filters will not only provide you with fresh, clean drinking water, but help extend the life of appliances that use water such as water heaters, washing machines, and dishwashers.

Perform an Energy Audit

The last thing you want is to dread the energy bill coming through the mailbox at the end of the month, so you may want to consider performing an energy audit. To do this, you will need to hire a professional who will visit your property and examine how much energy you and whoever else lives in the property are consuming. Once they have pinpointed key areas, they will be able to advise you on what action to take to help reduce your energy bills.

Install Solar Panels

If money is no issue and you’re looking to make a serious change, why not consider installing solar panels? Not only can they be a great way to conserve energy, but you will notice a huge decrease in your energy bills. What’s more, there are low maintenance costs attached to solar panels.

Create Your Own Compost

If you’re a foodie and love to cook, the last thing you want to do is throw away tons of excess waste. If you’re serious about doing your bit for the environment, why not compost your food instead? Rather than throwing anything into the garbage, leftovers can be used for composting, helping to keep your yard healthy.

Choose Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

The lights you choose for your home can be another big part to play in how much you shell out on your energy bill each month. Instead of sticking with traditional light bulbs, opting for energy-efficient ones can be a great way to keep costs down. Also, energy-efficient light bulbs are known to last far longer, meaning you won’t have to change them as often.

There are all sorts of benefits that come with being more eco-friendly. Not only will you help contribute towards a sustainable environment, but you can save money on your bills too. No matter how long you’ve lived in your property, making small eco-friendly changes can help you become more environmentally friendly.
