It seems as if it was years ago since lockdowns were imposed on most countries due to the pandemic, and now that Covid-19 is subsiding, the world is quickly transitioning back to how it was before the dreaded pandemic spread across nations and nations. In those two years that we were stuck in the comfort of our homes, our utility bills had, no doubt, going through the roof. Now that businesses, schools, hospitals, banks, and other establishments are returning to face-to-face operations in full blast, we can finally get back what we spent on our utility bills by saving energy.

Working adults and students are the best contestants who need to attend seminars on energy-saving tips now and then because they cause rising bills. Students, for instance, often have a bad habit of leaving electricity running unattended when they are not at home. This is because they tend to rush things in preparing for their agendas and forget to be mindful of their surroundings.

From unplugging devices to leaving a refrigerator door open irresponsibly, there are many reasons why our electricity bills might give us a heart attack one day. But how do you save energy when you are merely a student? There are many ways to save energy when you’re at school, and here’s how:

  • Unplugged unused appliances and devices

Not only will you get to save energy by unplugging unused appliances and devices, but you will also prevent the chances of catching a fire accident at home. When rushing to prepare for school because we’re already running late, we forget to unplug appliances and devices after turning them off. It’s common to think that since we have already turned the switch off, it will not consume electrical power anymore, but the truth is, it still consumes power.

The most common things we often forget to unplug are the air conditioner, electric fans, laptop charger, and television.

Plugged electrical devices and appliances, when left unattended, may also be the start of a fire accident. It was documented that around 2015-2019, electrical and wiring malfunctions caused 63% of the home fires.

Who says that only kids can save energy during school days? Parents habitually drop off their children at school before going straight to work. There are instances when the parent will even put the car in hazard to walk their kid to their homeroom. Well, one way to save car energy is not to leave your car’s engine turned on for a long time. If you are assigned to dropping off and fetching the kids from their school, turn your car’s engine off when it will take you some minutes to return.

Saving your car’s energy means you’ll also get to save up some gas, which these days cost 5x more than before!

  • Do not leave the lights on!

Ah, one of the things we usually forget to turn off whenever we leave the house is the lights. Especially when we have pets, we leave them at home every time we go out. We think it will be better to leave the lights on so they will not feel too lonely. While this could be true, taking advantage of natural light is easier and cheaper. Instead of leaving the lights on for the pets, push the window curtains aside so natural light will seep in, providing some brightness to those cute furbabies!

Trees in your backyard provide the perfect study place for you and your friends! Trees provide shade and fresh air, which makes it a comfortable location to study instead of going to a coffee shop or using electricity to study inside the house. Aside from creating a perfect study spot, indulging yourself in nature from time to time can also relax you from the pressure and stress school brings.

Have fun and some good exercise before going to school by riding a bicycle! If your house is just nearby, you can either walk or ride a bike if you have one. You can even do this with friends if you live in the same neighborhood. No need to waste more gas!

Conclusion

Saving energy now that you are back to school may seem such an easy task, but it’s one of the things people tend to forget about these days. In doing these energy-saving tips, you will also be helping your parents save money because saving energy and having cheaper electricity bills will also save them a huge amount of money.

Remember, saving energy to save money is one thing, but saving energy to prevent further damage from fire accidents at home is another.
