According to The Investor, car makers in Korea
sold more than 120,000 units of environmentally-friendly vehicles in 2018. This
represents a 27 percent increase from 2017 according to industry data revealed
on December 7.

Foreign and domestic car makers combined to
pump out 123,387 eco-friendly vehicles in 2018, which was way up from the
97,435 cars sold the year before. This data comes from the Korea Automobile
Importers and Distributors Association in partnership with the Korea Automobile
Manufacturers Association.

The data shows Korea to be a leader in “green”
automobiles per capita, as one in five vehicles sold last year in Korea were
either all-electric or hydrogen fuel cell electric models. This continues a
growing trend since 2015, when 40,000 eco-friendly cars were sold. This was
followed by 60,000 in 2016 and 90,000 in 2017.

While the data are yet to be revealed, it is expected that the rise in the eco-friendly car will play a vital role in helping improve the local air quality. If other nations were to follow Korea’s lead, it would surely have a massive global impact on air quality and help to reduce our collective carbon footprint.

While the eco-friendly car market is on the
rise across the globe, no countries can match the rapid increase that Korea has
seen. But with growing consumer demand, the trend could emerge on a
state-by-state basis. Many states also offer tax incentives for purchasing
eco-friendly cars, helping to sweeten the pot for doing your part for the
environment.

Of course, if there is more demand for green
cars, there will be an increase in workers needed to build them, which means
more green jobs! For the latest in green trends and green jobs news, keep
